AUDITION INFORMATION & CASTING BRIEF
Matilda The Musical was commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company (“RSC”) and is based on the beloved novel by best-selling author Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox). It is the story of an extraordinary girl who dreams of a better life. Armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, Matilda dares to take a stand and change her destiny.

PRODUCTION DATES
Rehearsals commence September 14, 2022. Generally, the Williamsburg Players rehearse Sunday through Thursday evenings starting at 7 p.m. However, with a large children’s show, there maybe earlier rehearsals for younger performers and Saturday mornings might also be needed for the younger ensemble members. Tech week involves late nights. The show will open Friday, November 4, and there will be two performances on Saturday, November 5. The next two weekends include Thursday night performances and Sunday matinee time slots in addition to the Friday night and two shows on Saturday. We will be double casting several roles to help compensate for Covid and the busy nature of fall school commitments. The will show will close Sunday, November 20, followed by mandatory participation in striking the set.
Young people in major roles should expect rehearsals to be 6:30-8pm several nights a week. Matilda may have a few later nights.
